The stick vacuum is a great tool for cleaning up your home, office, RV and boat. It’s easy to use and can be used in any room of the house, including on stairs or hard-to-reach areas.

However, it does require some maintenance to keep it working well. Here are some tips for keeping your stick vac clean – read more.

Try unplugging the vacuum from the wall and then replugging it back in. If that doesn’t work it could be a faulty motor or relay board. Call us and we can schedule you for a service call.

Try cleaning the filter on the power unit or changing the filter bag, if it has one. It could also be a clog in the vacuum tubing, if so our trained service mechanic can help with the problem.

Sometimes the central vacuum hose is the problem, it has wires and it could become twisted and lose contact after many years of use. You will need to purchase replacement hoses, which usually come in 30 & 35 foot lengths. If you notice it going on and then off, it is usually the hose. If it works in one outlet but not another, it could be a faulty outlet cover that needs to be changed.

Try changing the filter bag or the canister. If problem persists, the carbon brushes in your vacuum motor canister could be worn down and it would be time to think about a new motor or power unit. It could also be a clog in the line, which is making it work harder than it should and if it is a “vented” unit, the vent cover could be blocked on the outside of the house and its not allowing for the hot air to pass.

In some cases, the company that installed the vacuuming system did not properly measure or they did not take into account for furniture when installing the system. You can either buy an additional extension hose or replace your current hose with a longer one.

Yes and no, you can purchase a muffler for it and attach directly on the exhaust area which will bring the decibel level down by at least by 5. Older systems tend to be loud and noisy. The newer Cyclovac models are very quiet and efficient.

Most of the time the answer is no. Plumbing pipes usually have standard sizes and different accessories or power units can be used/installed in place. The standard central vacuum pipe is 2’’. Older systems from 1960’s, used a smaller diameter gray looking pipe which is less than 2’’ in size, but there are adapters for that to be converted to 2’’.
